Just enough to cause you to want more. What is the driving factor to bringing humans into the world of magic?
I don't usually enjoy such short stories because I feel there is not enough time to develop the plot but the summary of this book intrigued me enough to try it. I'm so glad I did! Both the plot and characters were nicely developed and I found the combination of magic and science very interesting and unique. I enjoyed this story so much I started the next book in the series right away.
So glad I found this - it really sets the stage for the next book, The Conservation of Magic. A quick read but you really learn a lot about Rune Corp, many of the main characters (Cara, Ohman and Chris) and the struggle between the clans that rule the parallel universe.
Gives you great insight into the magic,dragon energy and epic struggle that you will encounter in The Conservation of Magic.
This is a good start to a series. I enjoyed reading this short book. I will be buying the next one. I can't wait to see how magic work and how things will develop.
This short story hooked me so fast, I bought the first book in the series this is an intro to, and the prologue of that book has already hooked me again! Must read book, must read series!!! I'm an avid fantasy reader and this magic system is so unique it's bound to be an instant classic series for fantasy lovers.
This book brings a new definition of magic and dragons. Story starts with a definition of what dragons could be.
You know you have found a new favorite author when you stumble across a short story gem like this. I was immediately engaged by the storyline and wanted to know more. (And how in the world did Michael Layne make you feel like each of the characters could have easily been the focus of a full length book? And, spoiler alert here including the tree?)
Sorry for the short review. I have to go immediately find everything Michael Layne has written so I can read it.
