Glen Rogers was a career criminal and nomad - a road dog. A confidential police informant in Hamilton, Ohio, Rogers turned to murder to satisfy his need for power and control, particularly over women. Drawing from police investigatory records and confidential FBI files, two journalists discover that Rogers' long string of killings could have been prevented. If police in Kentucky and Ohio had not bickered and balked about investigating the death of Rogers' first known victim, an elderly man who befriended him, Rogers might have been captured and at least five men and women would not have been killed. Rogers' coast-to-coast trail of violence would lead to the most infamous crime scene of all the LA murders of Nicole Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

Anyone who enjoys reading about true crime will love this book.

It takes the story of a bone-cold serial killer and presents it very well and accurately based on first hand interviews, trial transcripts, and other solid research.

The two authors obviously dug up much original source material independently.

It's a fast, well written, detailed, and insightful report of Glen Rogers and his absolutely remorseless crime wave.

Anyone who enjoyed In Cold Blood or Under the Banner of Heaven will love this.

His name came up in a recent ID Channel show in which one of the authors of this book appeared.

Glen Rogers Road Dog Killer eBook John Eckberg Stephen Combs Reviews

I've read quite a few books about serial murderers now, and so I at least know now what I like. While this book surely isn't lousy, it didn't really peak my interest for some reason. I believe that I know why.

In reality, I think that books within this genre would simply be better if they were simpler; that is, just go ahead and shorten the trial phase, or do away with that phase altogether. By the time that I reached that part of the book, I just couldn't read anymore. I just didn't care. We learned about the murders, we learned about the hunt for that murderer, and that was enough for me. Plus, I'm just not interested really in the legal wranglings of our judicial system; to me, it just always shows how flawed the system really is. "OK. We know that Florida is tough on serial killers and has the death penalty. So let's send him there first!" Good grief. Why not just put killers like Glen Rogers out of their misery already?

I'd seen a documentary or two in the past about Mr. Rogers, and I watched the very suspect ID show "My Brother the Serial Killer" as well. After reading this book, I did learn enough to figure out his basic MO, and I don't believe that he killed Nicole Brown Simpson. Why? He tended to kill people only indoors; I believe that both Ms. Simpson and Ronald Goldman were both killed outdoors. Also, it was almost always the case that Mr. Rogers only killed women with whom he was having sexual relations.; I find it highly doubtful that situation applied to Mr. Rogers and Ms. Simpson. She seemed a little too "high class" to date Mr. Rogers in my book. Sure, Mr. Rogers could have been a contract killer in this case, but it just wasn't his thing; he killed people in a disorganized fashion, usually for passion that went completely out of control. And while Mr. Rogers probably killed at least one man, that was an outlier; he usually only killed women, which is the usual scenario for a male heterosexual serial killer.

Did OJ Simpson really commit those murders though? Well, while he was found innocent, the DNA evidence was exceedingly strong, and he surely had the opportunity, motive, and means. Naturally that doesn't mean that he was the killer, but it surely doesn't mean that he wasn't. I just wonder why people want to suddenly pin the Simpson-Goldman murders on Mr. Rogers so late in the game? What was the motivation for that? Make a little bit of money off of a documentary perhaps?

With regards to the book, I hedged on a 4 but I must go with an unfortunate 3 today. While the writing was certainly strong enough, it just didn't move me. To true crime writers out there I say try to make the story a riveting thriller, otherwise, what's the point?
Saw a crime doc on TV about Rogers and wanted to read this book to fill the details. The book did that. Probably could have had more from Rogers perspective except I don't think he does interviews. I don't know why Glen's evil story caught my morbid curiosity compared to all the others out there, but it did. They said something on the show about him bragging to be the one who killed Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman. Hmm...
